Tasers are quickly becoming the most widely used tool by police officers to effectively take violent suspects under control. Easily my weapon of choice for self defense, as far as less lethal weapons are concerned. The Taser is almost always instantly effective. The effects of a taser are not permanent, other than the memory of being tased...the bad guy will never forget it.
The Taser is also a dual purpose weapon. From up to 15 feet away, the Taser cartridge can deploy two darts into the bad guy. Without the air cartridge, it can be used for a contact stun, much like a standard stun gun. However, do not be mistaken, the Taser is much more effective than any stun gun on the market.
